Listen to Classical, Jazz, Rock, R&B, Pop, EDM, Hip-Hop, everything. I could swap Metallica for Polyphia here too) I love them just picked them because they're one of the most popular bands I could think of. Music is so much more and honestly you are robbing yourself of an opportunity to listen something that inspires you when all you do is play and listen to Metallica 24/7 ( Nothing wrong with Metallica. Just because you play guitar doesn't mean all you have to play/listen to is Rock and Metal. Practice to become masters guys there are no shortcuts unfortunately. Since he was 3 years old he's assimilated the concept of practice and made it part of his daily life. Sometimes you are not even hungry but that is a habit you've had all your life. I don't know Tim but I am almost certain he approaches practice as you approach eating a meal every 5 hours or so. This is something that Tim also got from his classical training and applied to guitar as well. What I mean by that is that in a guitar based band context there's always an approach to JAMMING which is the best exercise for learning to improvise and adjust to playing scenarios that force you to come up with ideas on your instrument. Maybe it was the transition from violin to guitar that made him develop the ability of improving since there's a tendency in the guitar world to let's say "wing it ". Classical musicians often have the technical abilities to play intricate pieces written on a score but when having to come up with something on their own they have difficulties most of the time. This is something that stuck out for me when I found out he was a classically trained musician because let's be honest they are not the best at improvising. I don't know how well versed Tim is on advanced theory but he knows what he plays and knows how to go for a sound whenever he wants which is something that comes from many years of playing and having the theory to look for what you want. I recently saw a post on this subreddit of someone asking how does Tim do his beats? How does he play piano, guitar and drums to make beats? If you are a 13 year old kid, be aware that Tim Henson has been a musician for the entirety of your existence plus 10 YEARS!!
